United States - Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP)

US-AEP, a program of the United States Agency for International Development (US-AID), partners with Asian governments and organizations to alleviate the impacts of rapid urban and industrial growth by promoting cleaner and more efficient cities and industries. Through its field staff in various Asian countries and its network of partners, US-AEP is an active supporter of the EIEAsia Network.

US-AEP’s Industry Activities: US-AEP’s industrial programs focus on alleviating the environmental harms caused by industrial expansion. Select activities center on: (1) Improving industrial environmental performance, (2) Developing and applying metrics systems to measure environmental impacts, (3) “Greening” the supply chain with policies and procurement guidelines for suppliers, (4) Promoting the exchange and adoption of best practices, (5) Improving the energy efficiency of manufacturing processes, (6) Improving the environmental management of eco-industrial estates

US-AEP’s Eco-Industrial Development Activities: Since the mid 1990s, US-AEP has been promoting eco-industrial development (EID) best practices and cleaner production to companies and industrial parks throughout Asia. Through a number of study tours estate developers and industrial specialists have been exposed to eco-industrial parks in the US. US-AEP activities on EID include: (1) Assisting industrial park/estate management in the application of various EID best practices, (2) Supporting Asian NGOs in the promotion of EID best practices through workshops, websites, and public education activities, (3) Providing technical assistance to governmental agencies responsible for the oversight and/or regulation of industrial parks, (4) Facilitating the involvement of Asian industry and government leaders in regional and worldwide EID-related organizations and conferences.

US-AEP presently works in India, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
